Fitzkaplan was established in 1987 by Diane Fitzgerald. With a background in Art History, Fine Arts and Objects conservation, extensive work experience and classical training at the venerable firm of Thorp Brothers, Fitzkaplan is known as a specialty restoration and replication company. Executing and restoring period finishes on antique and custom furniture and fine art objects are expertly accomplished. The small firm works on large architectural woodwork projects creating shellac and wax finishes, period painted finishes, gilding, antique and contemporary lacquer work, Japanning, Chinoiserie, French polishing, hand silvered mirrored glass, eglomise, and plaster and gesso work, along with many other unique finishes. We specialize in the use and manipulation of traditional materials, old techniques and formulas in proper and contemporary ways.
